Its been one year since I made a lifestyle change. I've run 1200 km's, gone through a couple pairs of shoes and don't even remember what a soda/pop tastes like anymore.

Thanks, I've lost 75 pounds. It's been an eye opening experience and one that I'm glad I committed to. It took me about 7 months to lose the weight and I've been hovering around that weight for 5 months now. A year ago today I was curled up in the fetal position, while having what I later found out was a gallbladder attack, and it turned out to be a life changing moment for me.

Thanks, the changes to my diet weren't drastic and only required a little bit of willpower. This is pretty much my daily food intake:

Breakfast - either a small bowl of cereal (special k or cheerios) with milk or a fruit and yogurt smoothie. I find the smoothie more filling and it gets me through the morning if I have it instead of cereal.

Morning Snack - If I have cereal for breakfast, then I usually have a banana or mixed fruit for a snack mid morning.

Lunch - Salad (lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, cucumber) with a low cal dressing

Supper - I eat whatever the family is having for supper, but just try to eat smaller portions and avoid seconds. I do most of the cooking in the house, so I am able to control what we eat and keep it healthy - substituting ground chicken or turkey for ground beef, avoiding fried foods, etc.) We eat a lot of chicken and fish, which tend to be a little lower calorie than red meat, but still have red meat at least once a week, but I drastically reduce my portions of red meat. In the past I would eat a full Porterhouse on my own, now that same steak feeds the whole family.

I cut out all snacking, other than fruit in the morning. Getting rid of that handful of chips while you are playing video games at night was a tough habit to break.

I pretty much drink H20 all the time now, with the exception of a glass of milk with my supper. I haven't had a drink of pop/soda for 12 months now, and even though I didn't drink a lot of pop (one can a day), it was the hardest thing to cut out, but I think one of the key things that I had to cut out. I drink somewhere between 3-5 litres of water a day.

I also cut back on my alcohol intake. For the first 3 months I didn't have any alcohol at all, then I gradually allowed myself a beer on Friday nights after hockey or at the odd social engagement. I used to have a beer or two while I was cooking supper most nights, and cut that out now, making it a rule to only have a drink when we have company or out at someone else's house.

It's really not that hard of a plan to follow and I don't consider it a diet, it's just a healthier way to eat.

I find eating like this, combined with my new exercise regiment is just a way of life now. I get up at 5:30 and run 5-10k a few days a week and then usually push for 15-20k for one run on the weekend. When I started a year ago I couldn't run 1k without busting a lung.

Thanks for all the positive feedback Barbie Is Ugly, MR Q, Nettels, Plinker and Tuff - my friends and family are the motivation behind this and have all been amazing at helping me through this.

Anyways, we just got a little german rottweiler, I'll have to get pics of her in here... her name is Cinderella.

Why is everyone afraid to put a pic of themselves online? They are already out there in the ether what is another one going to harm? Well, it does not worry me. I am not vain or ashamed so here is a pic of a proud grandpa (me) and his first grandson Kyle William. The family tree is dwindling fast as there has been a great majority of girls born. Much to my surprise and excitement, this little fella came along. Now at least my lineage will live on and maybe give the family name a boost to carry on. I had two sons, one son had a girl and now this one pops out a boy after his first was a girl. We were expecting this one to be a girl as well. Much to everyone's joy both sides of this little guyz family tree are very happy that he was he and not she. Nothing wrong with the girls we just need some males once in a while to let the names live on.
