If you’ve ever asked for a beer and wished it could have a tad more magic to it, like making it taste less like some sort of animal urine, your prayers haven’t been answered. Beer is still disgusting, but now it’s a little cooler-looking. The latest trend that you might see hitting your favorite bar is a lot sparklier than you might have imagined. Glitter beer is taking over, and you may just start seeing your favorite drink shimmering before you in your glass.

Glitter beer has slowly been coming to prominence ever since around 2016, where HuffPost detailed what could be one of the first out there in the wild: the Mermaid Tail beer from Seabright Brewery in Santa Cruz, California. It’s addition of lemon drop hops and blood orange flavoring to help mask the beet taste since it’s brewed with beets led to Seabright Brewery adding edible glitter into the mix. Thus, a celebration of mermaid-dom was born, and it looks way more delicious than it probably actually is.

From there, glitter beer has continued to pop up in several different locales, with one of the most recent at Bold Missy Brewery. Head brewer Carli Smith states that the beer, brewed with lemon and pink peppercorn, was in fact inspired by classic Lisa Frank looks, and it’s nicknamed the “Trapper Keeper” beer.

Bold Missy’s Lisa Frank-inspired brew looks shimmery, but it’s got nothing on Australian brewery Two Birds Nest’s Stardust IPA, which includes a ton of edible glitter in tribute to the late David Bowie, who would have loved the amazing look. Far out.

Where’s glitter beer going to strike next? Who knows? Let’s get some glittery sodas going though, since beer is probably one of the last things that needs to potentially make it any less appetizing. I’ll take a glittery pink strawberry soda, please.
