Hello everyone, I thought I’d try and get some dialogue going and update all you people on life and stuff. Hopefully you can join in too! It’s been 6 years since I signed up and sadly for me I haven’t been able to post much in the last 2 years, lucky for you guys though I’m sure :) .

Anywho, there hasn’t been any massive changes in my life in the meantime, I’ve walked out of 2 good jobs citing “differences with management” each time to get unemployment benefits  They were actual wankers, both of them, it definitely wasn’t me! Honest! There is method in my madness though, after assessing and having a really long think about life, love and existence I concluded there is little point in anything I’m doing. Striving to make other people rich at every turn, I got quite sick of life and the way it’s run. I’ve turned my attention to a career change, something I want to do... It’s taken 37 years to come to this, most people get to this stage 20 years earlier

I’m quitting work for good in September and going to train to become a teacher, Primary/ Middle school age. I’ve made the necessary arrangements, gotta get a part time job but the finances are sound, I’m currently volunteering on Mondays in my local school and working 12 hour shifts to accommodate the days off. So yeah, that’s where I am currently, my two boys are a few years older, the eldest leaving comprehensive in a few months and going on to college I’m still with my mrs, I’ve bought 3 dogs, still running cars into the ground and buying shitty replacements, still listening to shit music, still not loving police....etc etc.

You sound a bit like me mojo. Altho I haven't found the mo to my jo yet!!
After being in the building game for 25+ years, I've really had enough. After earning others plenty of money all these years a change is needed. Not sure in what form yet but I'm finding my way slowly in the form of "making shit" as I call it. Apart from all the grief and headaches my kids have given me over the last few years, they have also helped me discover my artistic side. Whether it is painting, or colouring. Baking or gluing, its a side of me that's always been there but never been bothered with. I enjoy it and have a flair for it. I have decided to keep doing what I'm doing (no choice with bills), but I'm waiting to start a welding course and I'm going to start "making shit" from home whenever I can. I am just gonna open up a can of inspirational whoopass and make art / functional household objects, toys whatever pops up in my head. My missus has landed a lecturing position which is gonna pay off in the next couple of years and it' gonna give me that bit more room for manoover work wise that I never has before. Still early days but looking forward to hopefully new challenges.

Anyway good to hear form you mojo.
    You still playing cod hard-core?
    You still mountain biking?
    You still welsh? ;)
    Glad you seem happy mate!!

I still work part time at weekends, been doing this for 5 years now as ive given up having to work in a crappy office job with a grim commute every day. I done that for 20 years and got sick of it.
Really im just passing time until i can officially retire from work which is still a way off (Im 51 atm), and then i can find a nice property somewhere so i can see out life in peace and quiet.
Still enjoy my gaming though mostly, but there are times where i question wtf am i doing still playing these things.
I totally understand Mojo's thinking in going for a total career change. Its something i wish id done many years ago. Too late now for me i think :(

Nice to hear from you chaps, it seems it ain’t just me who’s hit a stumbling block in life. I never thought mid life crises hit people in their 30’s! I thought I’d have had it all figured out by now. I guess if you feel you’re on the wrong path or you’re not getting out of life what you should then you do need to do something about it. Mr Q I’d follow your heart and do something that compliments you’re creativity, happiness is so hard to come by and the best thing to do to try and prolong it is removing things that get in its way. Jobs/careers are seldom beneficial to our psyche so what better way to improve wellbeing than to do something you enjoy. I’d be a porn star if I had my time over, I’m sure there’s a niche market somewhere.

I like your position slowdive, I’ve been wanting to get old for ages so I can call it a day on all this shit, however counting down the days has its own problems in the end, you know, like the talking heads song Once in a Lifetime, always makes me feel like I’ve wasted my time when I hear it, it’s very poignant.

I’m still doing all my side things that keep me occupied, I’m reading a lot more now which is good. I bore people endlessly about cosmology.

It's good to hear from ya man. I still check this place everyday even though it's been dead haha.

I'm still managing the warehouse at Dobkin Tile. It's going to be 8 years in October. I'm not sure if I said anything on this forum but I am married now (Feb 14 2018) and we're expecting a baby girl in June of 2018.

Wow, it's been almost 9mths since I was last on here, and just happened to hit the link because I was bored.
Doesn't look like much has changed around here.
Good luck with the new career change Mojo, hope it goes well for you!
    Double Congrats Ik0n!

Game play is minimal at the moment. Just finished grinding my way through Ghost Recon: Wildlands. Only things not completed are the multiplayer stuff, and that sucks without a regular crew.

I've been flat out otherwise. Music and Martial arts have taken up a lot of my spare time over the last couple of years.
You've seen some of my singing videos on here in the past, and that has really gone forward recently. I have a cover version of Country Roads that is sitting at #13 on the Tasmanian Independent Country Music Charts, I recorded a CD with both my Dad and a couple of good friends that has already seen another track from the CD reach #1.
I received the Most Popular New Talent Award at last years TICMA(Tasmanian Independent Country Music Awards) Event, and as a result, I get to perform at this years event in October. Think CMA awards, but on a much smaller scale!!:p

I'm back into playing with the local Brass Band too, and we are rehearsing heavily for the upcoming National Championships being held in Melbourne over Easter. I've got a full schedule over the Easter break, as not only am I performing in the band, which has 4 x stage pieces to perform, plus street marching, but I'm also part of a Quartet and Quintet, plus competing in the Open Bass Trombone Solo section too!!

Later this year, I'll be undertaking my biggest project yet. I'm heading to Miami, Queensland, to participate in a 2 week course where I'll be building a custom acoustic guitar from scratch. If all goes to plan, I'll have a beautiful looking and sounding guitar that is designed by me, for me.

Seriously cannot wait for that one!!

That's about it, hope everyone else is doing well!

    Thanks bud, most appreciated!
Still got three months to go before the guitar building course, and I am super pumped for that!
A little update on the other bits and pieces I mentioned above:
Aust National Band Championships was great for us as a band. We finished 4th in our section competing against 13 other bands, and a massive jump for us in the standings compared to the previous year. Things are really looking up for us later this year when we compete in our State Championships.
Unfortunately our Quintet came last, and our quartet second last, but we were also competing against top tier groups all bunched together in one section.
Lastly, I finished 6th in my solos section at the Nationals. Very, very happy with that performance, as there was only 7 points between myself and first place!
A couple of weeks ago, we had our State Solo competition, and I won the Tasmanian Bass Trombone section. I believe I played better in this comp than I did at the Nationals, but I didn't have any competition to go against, so it may have been better nerves.
