Alright boys and girls, chr0nic cr0w here. I'm going to try and summarize basic and more advanced SND strategies for you and a lot of tips and tricks as well that will drastically improve gameplay and your ability to win rounds and games.

A little about myself for any haters or guys who doubt my skill or know how.

    gamertag (xbox) "chr0nic cr0w" with zero's for o's
    kill death ratio: 2.22
search and destroy playstyle - "Rush"
prestige: 15th lvl 30 or so
time played: just under 12 days as we speak
game types: hardcore ONLY, Search and Destroy, Maybe a little TDM

    BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING:

Buy a gaming headset if you can afford one. THis will drastically improve your knowledge of where enemies are located during gameplay. I can literally hear any gunshot on any map and have a general idea of where that person is. This is critical information for search, especially when you are the last person alive.

    BEFORE THE GAME BEGINS:

Assess(sp?) the skill of your competition. Basically just do a lil rundown of your eyes down the other team seeing what type of prestiges they are on. The general rule is the higher prestige the more experience and know how. This does not necessarily mean skill but rather "experience". Generally higher prestiges know more about spots on the map, prefire, and rush more generally speaking.

All right so now that the game is about to begin and your all prepared n shit I'll break the game down to offense and defense.

    OFFENSE

The absolute key to offense is to plant the bomb. Why go on a wild goose chase trying to hunt down every enemy and kill them to end the round? The easiest and most simple way to win an offensive round is to get the bomb planted as quickly as possible. This brings enemies to you as they have to diffuse the bomb to win the round which leaves them in a more vulnerable position to get caught.

General knowledge of the maps is key to search and destroy as well. You must know the "half way points" to each map as to where you will expect to find enemies. Example: You have lightweight soh and marathon, the enemy has the same class. Obviously both rush classes. On every map, every route, there will be a spot where both these classes meet and you need to be prepared to shoot first. So know your maps and routes.

If you are the bomb carrier, get that thing to a bomb site as quickly as possible, letting teamates know where you are going, and when you are planting so they can cover you. Before planting the bomb try to have a spot in your head where you want to go hide in and wait for enemies to come and try to diffuse. Wherever possibly you want to plant the bomb on the side of the bomb site that is visible from your hiding spot. You dont want to have to leave your hiding spot to kill the diffuser whenever possibly so I cannot stress the point enough.

If you've made it this far here is a huge pointer to alot of mediocre players or newer players that would not have any clue about this:
WHEN PLANTING OR DIFFUSING A BOMB HOLD YOUR RIGHT JOYSTICK TO THE LEFT OR THE RIGHT AND SPIN AT THE SAME TIME AS HOLDING X. THIS KEEPS THE SOUND THE GAME MAKES WHILE PLANTING/DIFFUSING THE BOMB UNHEARABLE TO ENEMIES. You may not think this is a big deal or shrug it off, but anyone who wears a gaming headset can and will hear you diffusing or planting the bomb. Spinning around in a circle will prevent the noise from being heard by enemies.

These are the most basic of tips and tricks that can help you win rounds on offense. I will go into more detail and higher difficulty strategies later on such as rushing ect.

    DEFENSE

The key to defense is to prevent the other team from planting right? Exactly. As simple as that. Defense is more simple in a sense as your "preventing" rather than "pushing" to get the bomb planted. This means your should try to play with a little less edgy or agressive playstyle and try it keep it a little more simple, careful, and defensive. A big part of the game is communicating with teamates so try to make sure yu have even numbers of people doing certain things. Generally two guys defending and watching each bomb site and 1 guy hanging back while another clears out enemy spawn.

Check dead bodies for bombs. Seems simple right? You have no idea how many people I watch kill an enemy and run right past the dead body leaving the bomb laying in the open unguarded. If you come across the enemu bomb call out its location to your entire team and set up a claymore and watch/patrol the area. This is a guaranteed win pretty much.

MORE ADVANCED STRATEGIES FOR OFFENSE AND DEFENSE

Try to take different routes. If you die going one way one round, don't go the same way the very next round as you are likely to die from the same exact guy. A way to counter this is to go a different way that has a vantage point of the area the enemy was the last round. Take him out to get some revenge :).

Prefire is a more advanced concept and I'm not here to tell you about spots to do it or certain maps or anything but more to talk about what it is. Prefire is where you find a spot on the map where you can immediately fire upon the other team once a round starts. Generally these spots are skill-less and only require you to aim at a certain spot and blast out rounds but other prefire areas such as the streets on berlin wall where you must shoot from one side of the map to the other require a bit more skill. Go find these spots and watch gameplay of yourself getting prefired to learn more.

Each round you only have one life. So you want to protect yourself as much as possible. You must always use any objects you come across as cover. This does not mean hide behind every object you see but rather use everything you come across to your advantage. Why run out into the open when you can hide behind lets say... a concrete block that only covers you from the waist down. That elminates 50% of your body from being hit by bullets. Which obviously descreases the ability for the enemy to shoot you before you shoot them.

Search and destroy is a lot of common sense stuff but there is definately the most thinking and strategy required in it than any other game mode. The more you play the better you will get. You'll start finding routes that work for you and those that don't. You'll find those prefire spots and great spots to watch certain bombs on certain maps. I'm not here trying to babysit anyone or hold your hand. Just offering some basic as well as a few more advanced tips and tricks for people who want to get better.

    WEAPONS AND CLASSES

All I play is hardcore so my weapon classes may be slightly different from those you want to rock. I'll try to provide more general classes rather than "use this gun with this perk and this grenade" ect. Everyone has their own preference when it comes to guns so use what you want.

    Rush:

    SMG
Some type of rocket launcher ( to take down spy planes and or choppers if need be)
Smoke (used for distractions or as cover to get by an areas)
    claymore
    frag
    lightweight
    sleight of hand
    marathon

    Chill Class:

    Assault Rifle
Some type of rocket launcher ( to take down spy planes and or choppers if need be)
Smoke (used for distractions or as cover to get by an areas)
    claymore
    frag
    Flak Jacket
    sleight of hand/hardened
marathon/ninja (depending how much you rush)

    Things to stay away from:
Useless gun attachments such as reflex sights, red dots on guns with good iron sights, supressors in core.
Snipers. No sniper is a good sniper. Sniping is extinct in Black ops. You may have a good game with one but overall sniping sucks and does not help the team or yourself in search.

I've pretty much exhausted myself from typing all of this. Fell free to ask any questions or leave me some feedback if this little walkthrough has helped you any. also you can add me to xbox if you want and we can play together as well my gamertag is at the top of the page.

To the haters: Get your GB team, I'll get mine and then we'll own you.

Yeah it works. Try starting a party in a private match with a buddy and spin while planting or defusing and see if he can hear it. He won't be able to but try it if you doubt me.

Wow! I didn't know that of spinning while planting/defusing! Nice guide, BTW. I do know that SnD is the gamemode that requires a lot of thinking, and that's exactly why I love it. I'm glad you came up with this list. Now I'm going to be 50% more effective when playing for using your tips :p Thx again, man

    Great tips mate, thanks.

Why is a supressor useless in core though? I generally slap that on my gun straight away for s&d along with ghost pro. I'm pretty new to the whole COD experience though so much appreciate any feedback.

You can kill people faster in core without a supressor. That's just my general opinion though and I'm a Hardcore player so I'm pretty far from knowing what attachments to use in core. Just a personal opinion. I don't use ghost in S&D either because lightweight or flak jacket are way more useful to me. If the enemy team throws up a spyplane I generally just shoot it down asap.

Good tips, although being the from a long line of competition from pc theres a lot more at hand when playing game modes such as SnD (I've made money off of cod4, trust me I know how to work the team). One of the most underrated equipment in the game, willy pete. Otherwise known as smoke grenades. If you're playing defense you better grab one of these since it is going to be crucial when it comes to planting. I have a bunch of wallbangs, and setnades on the videos in my channel (check sig) which is what you're aiming for. The setnades although may not get you a kill, it still forces your enemy to slow down and wait for your nade to go off. This gives your team an extra 2-3 seconds to move into positions to counter the "center-point". Scopes are not completely useless in black ops. A sniper can easily pick up a few kills on a bigger map say Berlin Wall, or Array. Biggest thing by far however is sound wh0ring. You're going to need a head set. On this note another thing I would recommend is be careful when you decide to reload, and pick up other weapons. Both are noisy as hell and can give you away just like that.

P.s. They let you guys use equipment on gamebattles? I was in the 1v1 league for a little while, and it was prohibited

Especially MLG/GB shit that the average everyday player will never use. Thanks to those who have added their own tips though those are other things I have missed. Keep em comin.

    Chr0nic C0w,

Nice post. I rep'd you. I play HC only and mostly SnD with some HC TDM to pad the ol' kdr ;)

These are good tips. Moving past these you are really getting into map-specific strategies which players have to learn for themselves through experience and observation.

Non-leathal: WP is great on offense. I often substitute it for Nova Gas. Nova Gas = area denial and is also great for getting hit markers. If you do it right, it can kill in 3 ticks!

Rushing: On certain maps (like Summit) a good smg lw/soh/marathon class can get you amazing results. I usually stick to AR classes or "Chill" classes as you say ;) The key to rushing is to give yourself maximum advantage by 1) surprise and 2) position.

Perks: I dislike marathon on a laid back class. I much prefer ninja on defense and hacker or second chance on offense.
I also don't see red dots as useless. Maybe on a rushing class, but the slight zoom and clearer picture can really help in dark, shadowy, or distant areas. With AR and warlord I see very little disadvantage to not adding a red dot. Plus you get the extra grenades with Pro. I'm kind of liking your suggestion of hardened, though.
Flak Jacket really is a great perk and I don't use it often enough, mainly because I'm insanely paranoid about spy planes and shudder with fear at the idea of going without Ghost.

Secondaries: Since my rushing class uses SoH I use the RPG or crossbow. Do not underestimate the RPG! On my 'chill' class I almost always go with the 1911 or python. I love the semi autos, and have great kdr with them. This is not general advice, but the M14 + ACOG is a personal favorite of mine. Definitely want a pistol secondary with that.

Thanks for the post and watch out for claymores!

Ive got a Pro tip .... if you don't like trash talk during a game or in lobby .... don't play SnD. Core or H/C. Same diff. Full of dicks calling each fuckin homs or im shaggin your mum. Never came across it before despite other people talking about it on the forum. Well i came upon it today. Couldn't believe it. And the real sad part. They weren't even squeeling little kids either. Grown up blokes the lot of them.

Yeah man this is a very unfortunate downfall. SND is a very competitive gametype usually reserved for more experienced players so people generally get pretty heated. I catch myself screaming at people to get out of their spawn when I rush back there occasionally too. If I get into a loud lobby I just mute everyone instantly then I unmute certain people on my team if need be throughout the game. Hope this doesn't discourage you from playing SND.

Great tips as well. The only thing I'd suggest to you would be to use the first rocket launcher (i forget what its called) instead of the RPG. Two reason for this. 1.) It shoots straighter and more predictably. 2.) You can shoot down spyplanes and choppers ect. Even if your rocking ghost this greatly helps your teams chances of winning. The other thing would be a clarification I guess. Not all red dots are useless, I'd say they are useless on all SMG's but pick and choose which assualt rifle you use them on. M16 is a great example of a gun you almost need a red dot for. To me and alot of others I know hate the iron sights with a passion. THe odd person likes them but the majority hates em.
